Participation in Commencement Ceremony

An in-person Commencement Ceremony is held each year. Unforeseen extreme circumstances may preclude AIU from hosting such events.

All students who have met the requirements below are encouraged to participate, including those who attended solely online. Students interested in participating in the Commencement Ceremony must register for the ceremony once the registration window is open.  Participation is voluntary; any expenses incurred related to attendance at a graduation ceremony are the sole responsibility of the graduate.

In order to participate in the ceremony, all candidates for Associates, Bachelor's, and Master's degrees and Certificates must have completed or be on track to complete the full number of required credit hours and satisfy all of the academic requirements of their program before December 31st of the current ceremony year. Students who are in a withdrawn or dismissed status at the time of the ceremony are ineligible to participate in the Commencement Ceremony. Students who do not complete the requirements of their program have not officially graduated from the university, regardless of ceremony participation. All graduates from the class year, including those electing to participate in a physical Commencement Ceremony, are also eligible to participate in a virtual Commencement Ceremony. The virtual Commencement Ceremony is held annually. Eligible graduates will be invited to register for the virtual ceremony for the year they graduate.
