Online Class Attendance and Participation

CLASS ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION POLICY - Online Campus and Campus Students Taking Online Classes

The goal of AIU is to provide students with learning experiences that will assist them in reaching their goals of a degree and a career. Students are expected to perform as professionals in their respective fields, which includes reporting to work regularly, on time, and being prepared to contribute.

Student attendance is directly related to success within a course. The following activities are an integral part of the student learning experience at AIU. Components of each area below should be utilized on a weekly basis. Students who have worked ahead, or are retaking a course, are still expected to participate and register attendance on a weekly basis.

Students are expected to communicate with their respective faculty member, in advance, when an absence may prevent regular participation.

Submissions that are deemed not academically relevant to the course, will not register attendance. This participation is captured and recorded as attendance in the student's academic record and updated with each consecutive academically-related activity. This provides a dynamic update to the Last Date of Attendance (LDA) in the student’s academic record for real-time monitoring of course participation throughout a session. New students must participate beyond the first week of their academic program to remain enrolled in the university. New students who do not participate in class and register attendance beyond the first week of their first course will have their enrollment canceled by the institution.

Throughout the academic program, students who have not submitted work or registered attendance for 15 calendar days, not including session break days, will be administratively withdrawn from the their class and/or the University.

Students who stop attending a class after participating will receive an earned letter grade of W or A-F determined by the student’s LDA.
