Academic Proficiency: Undergraduate Programs

In order to succeed in college level courses and programs of study, students need to exhibit proficiency in basic communication, computational and mathematical concepts as well as soft-skills. Students are also expected to demonstrate college level proficiencies in these domains prior to graduation. The foundational courses at AIU assesses students for their knowledge of these four domains so that the gaps can be addressed within those courses throughout the student’s program.

A student who demonstrates basic academic challenges in one or more of these areas is provided with a customized selection of learning resources through their courses, intended to facilitate the student’s progress in the according area(s). Students are strongly encouraged to utilize these customized resources as well as other resources where appropriate and available, including attendance at Learning Center sessions or use of Learning Center materials, with the expectation that successful completion of these focused activities will enable students to improve their academic performance along with their persistence towards graduation.
